We road test Xwork’s ultra gaming machine.
We’ve long cast envious glances over at our colleagues on PC Zone. Why? Well it’s not because of their good looks, stellar charm and pearly white teeth (although they’re obviously all major factors). No, rather it’s the great hulking beast of a games PC which sits ominously in the corner of their office section, which takes every graphically and CPU intensive modern PC game they can throw at it before spitting them out in flawless polygons of perfection.

It’s rare that a videogame has a good ending; even the great ones are tainted a little when there’s no more game left to play. But some games have far, far more anti-climactic and all-round garbage conclusions, and with the aid of our trusty notepads we’ve managed to put a red star next to a few of them.

News: GSC on S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Creating the Zone

The developer explains why and how it crafted S.T.A.L.K.E.R.’s game world, and what it wanted the environment to deliver.
GSC: "We had the idea of a Zone with anomalies, artifacts and stalkers from the very beginning and we were searching for a realistic location to set this in. We wanted to create something as realistic as possible, given that our newly-created X-ray engine allowed near-photo realism.
